Gareth Pugh Men
Is a fashion designer who does not do things by halves. Not only does he produce two exquisite collections a year, he has now set his sights on the beauty world, resulting in.
No great surprise really, given the attention to detail that goes into the beauty looks at his shows. This was never going to be the type of range that was just wheeled out on to the production line - it has been two years in the making. Including nail lacquers, graphic false lashes, lipsticks, creamy eyeshadows, beauty powders and a make-up bag, there is no detail left untouched in this range - even the boxes are lined with his signature monochrome print. The collection is based on the same principle as his clothing: a study of opposites (represented here as black and white).
Pugh explains, 'it's like the positive and negative elements of a battery. They are total opposites but when combined together they create energy'.
In line with this, he tells VOGUE.COM that there are two make-up 'stories' within the collection. 'One light and ethereal, based on silver and grey tones and the other is dark blue colours, which has a more powerful message - I really like the idea of exploring the hard side of beauty' - something that he does consistently at his shows, where he works extremely closely with make-up artist Alex Box to create a strong and androgynous beauty look. 'I have always really enjoyed being involved in the beauty side of things. Before a show, I will speak with Alex so that we can come up with the right look to suit the collection. It is integral to the overall message of my show'. A self-confessed perfectionist, when asked to collaborate with MAC he knew immediately it was the right thing to do and went at it 'hammer and tongs', working at length with their product development team to create the range that best represented his vision of beauty so that it could be 'the best that it could be'. Mission accomplished, Gareth.
Job well done. Buy the collection at from December 2. YOU SHOULD SEE: YOU SHOULD SEE.
